Cardiologist Report

Report: passed with flying colors!

The big hole in Jonathan's heart has started closing. The thick inner wall has been thinning. The only thing left to watch is the outer walls of the heart, which are kind of thick. The story is that Jonathan just has a weird heart...but his blood pressure and EKG and all signs look really good. So...it's weird, but it works.

Dr. C., the cardiologist, says that her instructions to the surgical team will be to treat his heart as normal and not to administor any special medications. That is quite a huge blessing!

Her next comment was, "I can tell by looking at this baby that he has a lot of people praying for him."

The anesthesiologist called today and told us what we have to do before the surgery (which is next Wednesday...we're getting close!). We have to keep him on Pedialyte for two days to clear out his intestines and reduce the chance of infections. Breast milk is considered a "clear fluid", but all he drinks is breast milk and he has plenty of stuff coming out the other end.

We've been giving him Pedialyte for the past month so it won't be a big surprise to him when he has to drink it for two days straight. He's really good about drinking it so long as we warm it up a bit first. He does NOT like it cold. We tried that and he made some of the most disgusted faces I've ever seen on a kid - he even hung his tongue out and made spluttering noises.
