Hey, We're Getting Somewhere!

Jonathan got off the respirator right after I wrote the last post. Apparently he was fighting it so hard they figured it'd be better to take him off it: his body would have less to do just working to breathe rather than working to breath against the respirator.

He was on for the normal time! And his stats have been terrific, so he's not going back on either. He's healing up just like he's supposed to. That is a huge blessing. There are so many people praying for this baby - one of our neighbors even came over a few days before the surgery to pray over him. It's funny how you don't always find out about what people around you think and believe until something like this comes up.

He had kind of a rough day on Thursday, since the incision was very sore and so was his throat. I spent most of the day holding his hand and holding him down so he would thrash around and hurt himself, and that was hard for me to do. I don't like when any of the kids are sick and I really don't like when there's nothing I can do to make them feel better. He was happier being held but getting him up and down was NOT fun, so we actually left him in bed most of the day. Mom has a bad cold, so she hasn't wanted to get to close to him, which hasn't helped him or her much!

He's also still in the NICU, which has it's good and bad points. The good points are that all the babies in with him are very quiet, the nurses are much more available, and there aren't a lot of communicable diseases floating around. Jonathan also looks like a moose. He's in a ward with a bunch of babies who look to be under three pounds! And even after surgery, his cheeks are round and pink and he just looks a lot better than his pod mates.

The really good news is that today he's doing much better. He's not crying hysterically when he wakes up, he's actually awake enough to look at people and smile, and his intestines are working good. He's on Tylenol instead of Fentanyl, and he's been playing with toys and acting more normal. The scuttlebut is he'll be fed tomorrow evening or Sunday, and if things keep looking like they are right now we might actually get home sooner than three weeks - our current average hospital stay.

For my part...it's been a busy few days! I've got to go!
